Ian Jackson runs a one person comic book shop called Collectors Corner in Wirksworth, England. He posts interesting videos about comic books, books, magazines and other collectibles on his TikTok page.

What is your earliest memory of reading?

Would have been things like the Beano & The Dandy, Marvel UK & Grandreams Marvel Annuals, and Alan Class reprints of Atlas / Marvel stuff.

Later, Lord of the Rings and horror (Pan books of horror).

When did you know you wanted to open a comic book store? How did it happen?

Great question! Lots of people might think I chose to do this for fun – but came out of years of frustration in other jobs (at the highest levels).

What’s one of your favorite scenes?

Judge Dredd – Judge Death / Dark Judges (Brian Bolland / John Wagner).

Hulk in Secret Wars (Mountain).

Alex Ross’s MARVELS moments.

What makes a good character? A bad one?

Moral complexity.

Strength (both physical and otherwise).

What moves the story for you?

Character development.

Steady peeling back of a story – layers of reveal.

What is your favorite book and why?

Books-wise, got to be LOTR, but HUGE fan of Stephen King, both novels and short stories.

What do you want to say to your patrons?

Thank you! If it wasn’t for social media and the kind nature of comic book people, I wouldn’t still be in business (covid, complexities of running a very small one-man, semi-rural niche area business).

What advice do you have for creatives and collectors?

For creators – for me, it’s better to put something out there that’s not perfect, than to be a perfectionist and never release anything. Be yourself!

Collectors – go for what you like! If you like something maybe don’t hold back – generally, as far as I’m concerned, there’s only one of something – it may be gone next time!

Comics generally accrue value, tpbs not so much. Collect comics – reads tpbs.
