Christopher Soucy is an incredibly talented and hardworking storyteller, performer, and comedian who brings joy and laughter, as well as satiating emotional horror, and fantastical realms to audiences through his craft.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Christopher Soucy. I am a writer/director/puppeteer/filmmaker living in Savannah, Georgia.

What genres do you write and why?

I tend to cross genres. I tend to have a core of horror and then interlaced everything from Noir Detective to Sci-fi Fantasy.

What is your earliest memory of reading?

There was a picture book about a Saint Bernard and his red ball. No words. But me and my sister would take turns “reading” it to each other. There was a thrill to turning the page and revealing the plot as we understood it from the pictures.

When did you know you wanted to write? How did it happen?

I always wanted to be an artist.  And when I stopped to think about it, my idea of “artist” translated to “storyteller.” That’s what I have always wanted to be. A storyteller.

What’s one of your favorite scenes in one of your works?

It’s hard to pick favorites in one’s own work. Partly because we tend to be highly critical of our work, and equally proud of every bit of it.

What makes a good character? A bad one?

I suppose my thoughts of what makes a good character boils down to goals. What the character hopes to achieve. And then, of course, what actions do they take to achieve those goals, or self sabotage themselves. Which sort of informs what I think makes a bad character – weak or underdeveloped motivations.

What moves the story for you?

Overcoming obstacles. Recognizing them, engaging them, and getting past them – even if it involves moving to a different obstacle.

What is your favorite book and why?

The world building. Learning the rules and dimensions of the author’s imagination.

What do you want to say to your audience?

The world is full of mystery and wonder, explore it with eyes wide open.

What advice do you have for new writers?

Write. Write, write, write. It is the very definition of what it means to be a writer. Write for yourself first and the reader second.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Telling stories is one of the fundamental functions of being a human being. Don’t let anything stand in your way of telling a good story.
