Chasity S. Gallahar

By Adam Messer

“To me a good character hits several emotional points. This means they could make you feel happy in one scene, emotional in another, then slightly disappointed, and even hopeful and forgiving.” – Chasity S. Gallahar.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Chasity S. Gallahar. I am 37 years old and I have two beautiful little girls. I was born in Knoxville Tennessee, but raised in Atlanta-Stone Mountain, GA. I nurture a fondness for music, art, acting, business, and now writing. This is our first novel and we are excited to share an 11 year process with hearts that are fed by stories.

What genres do you write and why?

I love all genres but I would say that my niche fits more in the thriller, mystery, suspense categories. Since I was a little girl my favorite games were those that poked and challenged with the mind. Clue, guess who, murder/mysteries are a few examples. This led to me watching and studying movies and shows catered to this genre and eventually years later I met Monica on the set of a mini series that I helped to co create and co write. This then started our journey of writing our own romantic psychological thriller.

What is your earliest memory of reading?

This would have to be when I was three. It was picture books that were given to me and my sister. I would also have to say Charlotte’s web was a book my grandmother used to make me read when I was about 10 years old.

When did you know you wanted to write? How did it happen?

I started writing screenplays first. This started when I was in school in drama class. We would have to get in groups and write, produce, then perform our own stage plays.

What’s one of your favorite scenes in one of your books?

Oh this is a hard one because there are sooo many. But if I had to choose one of my favorites, I would pick the scene where Dana and David collide. And how an antagonist and protagonist temporarily switch places.

What makes a good character? A bad one?

Depends on what you mean in good and bad. Is this character good in behavior or good in how they operate to gain what they want? Or is the character poorly written? To me a good character hits several emotional points. This means they could make you feel happy in one scene, emotional in another, then slightly disappointed, and even hopeful and forgiving. Writing is the fun part but reading brings the words to life.

What moves the story for you?

The different perspectives and twist and turns these characters become faced with.

What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is Ramona and not just because I helped write it. It’s because this book helped grow me as a writer. From the ups and downs, even times when I wanted to give up. Seeing this book on Amazon, reminds me that the fight was not in vain. That this book has come to fruition.

What do you want to say to your audience?

If there is something inside of you that wants to start a new journey, or continue the journey you may already be on, don’t give up. The challenge was meant to be tough, that’s why it’s a “challenge” and challenges are made to grow, stretch, and strengthen you. You have to trust the process and have to know that you’re going to come out even better than the way you began.

What advice do you have for new writers?

Have fun. The pen, laptop, type-writer, whatever style, is your magic wand. Let the creativity flow. Don’t worry about if it sounds good or if the story makes sense, the purpose is to get you inthe habit of expressing your thoughts on paper, once you do that, everything else becomes easier to learn.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Yes, this book is a part one. We are getting ready to get started with book two soon. We are working with a talented vocalist who is producing a theme song for the book and for our pilot script that we have in the works. So, let’s just say, we have big plans for this project.
